Atlanta Hawks Profile

Team Ceiling

2nd round – Although they have improved their starting lineup and depth, I don’t see the hawks reaching a greater result than this. They are still missing some veteran guidance and a great second (healthy) player.

Team Floor

Play-in exit – If they are healthy, we should expect this team to at least make the play-in. But the worst-case scenario tells me they are not even making the Playoffs.

X-Factor

Jalen Johnson – If he’s able to take care of his body during the season, he will be the turning point for the Hawks and their future. A 6’9” SF with his strength is destined to be a great player and I don’t think we have even seen a 50% of his potential.

Bust

Kristaps Porzingis – After his last weird Playoffs run, the lack of championship potential from his new team, together with his self-confidence, Porzingis will turn out to not be a great addition to this team by the end of the season.

Dark Horse

Onyeka Okongwu – With a clear path for the starting center position, Okongwu will have more minutes than ever. That, together with the fact that I don’t trust Porzingis gives him a great shot of transitioning to a starting center in the league and show everyone what he’s made of. This will be his breakout season.

The Atlanta Hawks are a mid-level team that has been in no man’s land for the last 5 years. They are just made for that. But they are a great place for players to develop and take the minutes they give them to keep improving.

If they manage to stay healthy, they have a chance of making the Playoffs and try to make a run.

Dyson Daniels is an excellent defender and has drastically improved offensively. The days he’s off iin this aspect, Kennard and Alexander-Walker are there as his backups. Trae Young must keep doing what he knows, controlling the ball for his team and trying to be a more consistent scorer. Jalen Johnson has the potential to become a star in the NBA and Kristaps Porzingis can be a great addition to this team, leaving aside my personal trust in him.
