Brooklyn Nets Profile
Team Ceiling
Decent result, out of play-in – There’s nothing much to say regarding this team for season 25-26. It’s a transition season, Michael Porter Jr will be the star of this team and Cam Thomas will try to shine and get a good contract next summer. Best possibilities for them are not being last in the East.
Team Floor
Nothing – As mentioned, their floor is ending last in the Eastern Conference. There’s nothing that can attract anyone from this team, except media and press conferences from MPJ. They are expected to be last.
X-Factor
Cam Thomas – He took the qualifying offer to control his future next summer, but he shouldn’t lose focus. This season is of great relevance for his future and he should be the one standing out in this team.
Bust
Their five 1st rounders – I don’t think this can have a great outcome. There’s not enough room for five 1st rounders plus the current sophomores, Cam Thomas and MPJ… Most of them won’t see much playtime and they will become a lose of 1st round picks in the future.
Dark Horse
Noah Clowney – Despite having some issues with his ankle last season, Clowney got relevant minutes during his sophomore year. If he can stay healthy, he’s a good backup for the F/SF positions while MPJ or others are resting. He needs to improve his 3P% though – last year he had a 33% shooting 5.7.
Sadly, after many unsuccessful projects, the Brooklyn Nets won’t be a team to follow this season. Not trying to be rude, but they are a bunch of mid players with Cam Thomas in a star/bust situation, MPJ making statements about not knowing how long will he be able to play and five 1st round rookies whose potential is yet to explore.
Not everything is negative. On the good side, Jordi Fernández has a great challenge this year. He will have the chance of experimenting with the roster, knowing and teaching players his play style – and develop his own.
Also, they are last team in salaries this year ($141,494,038). The future is not as dark as some expect for this team. They are still a great market, but in the future they will need to count on a better management and transform that to results on the court.
