Denver Nuggets Profile

Team Ceiling

NBA Championship – If Jokic is playing for a team, they become instantly championship contenders. He’s so good he can make any team great. Luckily for him, the Nuggets are already good. They are a clear contender, ranking top 4 in the power index rankings from ESPN.

Team Floor

2nd Round – As mentioned in other team’s posts, the West is wild. They could easily face a great team either in the 1st or 2nd round, who could eliminate them. Last year they already had both rounds reaching 7 games.

X-Factor

Cam Johnson – If Johnson can adapt quickly to how the Nuggets play the game of basketball, he can become a great addition. He doesn’t have the scoring potential from Michael Porter Jr., but he’s still a great scorer. He’s been a consistent +39% 3PT shooter throughout his career. Apart from that, he’s a great defender, so it’s a key addition for the Nuggets this year and their success.

Bust

Tim Hardaway Jr. – Not quite a bust, but Tim Hardaway’s mission for the Nuggets is scoring 3s from the bench. If he’s not able to do it in key games and especially the Playoffs, he won’t be of much use apart from that. In any case, if he’s able to provide that for Denver, and with Jokic providing everything he needs to do so, he can even become a contender for the 6th man of the year.

Dark Horse

Christian Braun – As for Hardaway, not really a dark horse, as we all know Braun already. But it’s a big season for him. He already doubled his PPG last year, establishing his position as the starting PG. So this season he should provide a lot for the Nuggets as a now well-seasoned player in the league. I would see him even averaging +18 PPG this year.

The Denver Nuggets offseason was great, freeing themselves off Michael Porter Jr.’s contract and adding Cam Johnson. Also, they found a great backup center in Valanciunas to allow Jokic to rest during the regular season especially.

Bruce Brown came back and they also added Tim Hardaway Jr. With them, their bench is now loaded and prepared for the season. They did a great job.

It’s very important for Jokić to know that he doesn’t have to carry all the offensive weight for his team. With Braun being each year a better player and scorer, Jamal Murray – and his inconsistency, sometimes – starting his extension this year and Aaron Gordon with all the confidence that he gained last Playoffs, the Nuggets are ready to fight for a new championship.

Will Jokic focus on winning another MVP, will he put all his focus on a new championship, or try both?
