Detroit Pistons Profile

Team Ceiling

Conference Finals – Pretty optimistic, but everything is possible for this team. With Cade entering his fifth year in the league, ranking top 7 in the MVP race last year, and with Ivey coming back from his injury, they have built a good 6 or 7 young man rotation with Tobias Harris leading as the veteran.

Team Floor

1st round – They will most probably enter the Playoffs, but depending on their matchup, an early exit is a possibility for the Pistons. Depending on how they finish the season, if they face the Magic or the Bucks they could be out of the Playoffs earlier than expected.

X-Factor

Jaden Ivey – If he’s able to come back healthy enough to be their starting PG and second star, Ivey can allow other players such as Thompson to shine in other fields where they are better. Thompson has already started shooting a lot more than he was used to. Although that’s not bad for his confidence, he will need all his energy to defend the superstar in their Playoffs games. Detroit options highly depend on Ivey coming back soon enough and partner up with Cade.

Bust

The lack of rotation – There’s no clear player that can be a bust in this team, but they have lost a lot during the offseason in terms of rotation and bench players. With a couple of injuries or even in games where the key players are underperforming, the Pistons will notice the lack of bench.

Dark Horse

Ausar Thompson – Everyone talks about Amen, but Ausar keeps improving his game too. He doesn’t have as much protagonism as his brother, but this year he will be an undisputed starter. He’s still missing some shooting quality and consistency, but Ausar is still in a great place to become a better player and find his proper game.

The Detroit Pistons are currently in the middle of nothing. With Cade, Duren, Ivey and Thompson they have built a great core for their future. But that’s not enough. Last year they had great rotation players but it wasn’t enough. Now they have lost a lot of them, with Schroder and Malik Beasly being the ones they will miss the most.

My personal bet is that they will reach the 2nd round, but that will be it. If this year they obtain the same results, maybe it’s time to look for new pieces in the market and trade some of theirs. Ivey and Duren are in their last year of contract and could see the exit sooner than later if they find any other player(s) that they think fit the team better.

Let’s see how they perform this year with a shorter rotation! Good luck to the Pistons.
