Golden State Warriors Profile
Team Ceiling
Conference Finals – If Stephen Curry is playing, anything can happen. Even at 37 years old he’s still a key player for the Warriors, particularly during the Playoffs. But with this competitive West Conference, I don’t see them making the Finals. A long Playoff run is hard and this Warriors team has Butler (36), Horford (39), Curry (37) and Green (35) as their main players.
Team Floor
1st Round – Unless there’s any unexpected issue during the season, they are making the Playoffs, that’s for sure. But their floor will depend on who they face in the 1st round – or even the Play-in.
X-Factor
Jimmy Butler – Jimmy Butler needs to stay healthy to be the Batman that Curry needs. Last year we already saw him struggling physically during the Playoffs. If he’s able to avoid injuries and Kerr manages his usage and minutes during the season, Butler is a key player for any Playoffs game.
Bust
Jonathan Kuminga – Last opportunity for Kuminga – wake up or get out. After the gossip episode during the summer regarding his contract, Kuminga needs to prove what he thinks he deserves. Next year the Warriors have a team option on him and after that he will become an unrestricted free agent. If he can show Kerr he’s the future of the franchise, he will push the Golden State administration to keep him. In any other case, he will need to still show the league what he’s got.
Dark Horse
Will Richard – Kerr already said he likes this guy, and he’s already getting minutes. As there’s no other pure point guard backup, he has the opportunity to both learn from Curry and be in the court with so many good veterans.
The Dinasty is slowly nearing its end. It’s a sad time for basketball. This year they lost Kevon Looney too, who had been with them for 10 years. Will they be able to perform a last dance? We hope so, but we also hope that Stephen Curry stay with us a for as long as possible to allow us to enjoy his basketball.
Apart from the emotions, the Warriors team is still good. A good starting 5, with Kuminga already there with good performances and not abusing the ball. The bench is also good, Buddy Hield is underused in my opinion but he seems fine with his role there. Al Horford is a great addition to cover Looney’s absence and Moody, Santos and Post can provide some good minutes off the bench.
