Memphis Grizzlies Profile
Team Ceiling
Play-in – At max, they will reach the 1st round, but this team doesn’t seem great for making past there. They are currently in no-mans land. After Ja Morant’s appearence in two consecutive All-Star, he’s going downhill year by year. It seems they have reached their no return point.
Team Floor
Nothing – Will Ja Morant still be in the Grizzlies by 2026? With every game that Memphis plays, more people start thinking that he might not. If he’s traded in the middle of the season, and also depending on who arrives at Memphis, their worst position might be not even reaching the Play-in.
X-Factor
Ty Jerome – After ranking 3rd in the 6MOY award, he got paid by Memphis and is looking to reach another level in Memphis. Once he starts playing, Iisalo will need to make adjustments in the rotation. If Jerome is able to find his spot in the team, he can be a great asset offensively by creating his own shots and providing for others.
Bust
Ja Morant – It seems that Morant’s time in Memphis might be coming to an end. Horrible attitude and they might be growing tired of getting worse, more problematic and less of a superstar when he should be reaching his prime. In any case, if they decide to trade him they can still get a great offer from teams such as the Heat or KIngs.
Dark Horse
Cedric Coward – They found a gem in this year’s draft. Thanks to Morant’s status, Ty Jerome injury and other factors Cedric Coward is playing as a 6th man along with Aldama. And he’s another reason why this 2025 draft class might be one of the greatest ever. With the 11th pick, he’s already averaging +15PPG with 52% 3PT and 2.2 steals per game.
It would be a great idea to get rid of Ja Morant now that he still has greate value for other teams in the league. In exchange, they can get either a package of assets to try and start competing again now, or a package with multiple draft picks to start building their future.
Memphis is not a great market for players to get traded to, so the idea of the draft picks might not be that bad. They already got Jerome with a great contract, Cedric Coward as a great SG that could be a starter in the future. Jaren Jackson Jr. is already secured for the next 3 years, and Aldama too.
The future for the Memphis Grizzlies is blurry right now, will they be able to unblur it this season? Or will the Grizzlies office trust in the current project?
