Miami Heat Profile
Team Ceiling
Conference Finals – If we think which teams should make it to the East finals, the ones everyone thinks about are Bucks, Cavs and Knicks. But who takes the 4th spot? The 76ers? The Pistons? That spot is very open, so it wouldn’t be weird if this team is the Heat.
Team Floor
Play-in – On the other side, if they don’t take advantage of this opportunity they could find themselves battling in the Play-in. Anything can happen there, as it’s only a single game. As well as reaching the Conference Finals, ending their run in the Play-in is an option. But it’s quite more probable they might it at least to the 1st round.
X-Factor
Norman Powell – Powell reached a starter spot last year with the Clippers, and scored more than 20 PPG while being the third option offensively. Now that he’s here, he will be even the first option sometimes, and we know he can do that. Great player to follow this year.
Bust
Terry Rozier – Getting Terry Rozier was a bust for the Heat since the beggining. Apart from his off-the-court activities and issues, he didn’t even provide while playing. Now, while the investigation is ongoing, they have lost his services and what they expected to be their secondary point guard.
Dark Horse
Jaime Jaquez Jr / Davion Mitchell – Good thing about the Rozier issue is that Davion Mitchell arrived in Miami last year. He can play as the starting PG that way and leave Herro to be the scorer that he is without worrying about taking the ball up the court. Also, Jaquez might be a key player for the Heat. He has the conditions to be that, as he showed in the past, but he needs to regain the confidence from the staff so they can give him the minutes he deserves.
Short rotation for the Miami Heat currently, especially as they have started the season with some injuries.
After ending the Jimmy Butler’s project, they got rid of Duncan Robinson, Kyle Anderson and some othe rotation players. In exchange, they added Powell and Fontecchio which are great scorers and will provide great scoring and energy as a starter and off the bench, respectively.
Good thing for the Heat is that the East conference doesn’t seem really competitive, so without doing great stuff they can comfortably make it to the Playoffs and depending on their health, make a good run there.
Many things to be monitored… Should they trade for Ja Morant? Can they get rid of Terry Rozier and his contract? Can Kel’el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr step up? All of these questions will be answered throughout the season, but they have a great opportunity to surprise the East conference now that there’s not a bunch of great teams as in the West.
Let’s see if they Heat can make it past the 1st round this year.
