Milwaukee Bucks Profile
Team Ceiling
Conference Finals – We could say Giannis is a similar case to Doncic, with some differences. He could carry a whole team to the East Finals in his case, but he’s more stoppable than Doncic. If he has no one by his side, and the other team makes good decisions, we can see the same situation as the past years versus the Heat and the Pacers.
Team Floor
1st Round – They should make it to the Playoffs, but they could trip again with the same rock – not the Pacers this year, probably. If they face a team that know how to manage Giannis, I’m not sure if Turner, Gary Trent and Kuzma can be trusted to be that second player that Antetokounmpo needs in games like this. Even Lillard wasn’t that for him.
X-Factor
Gary Trent Jr. – He showed last year that he can have great scoring games. Kuzma is discarded for this role, as he’s even coming off the bench this year. If Gary Trent can take some weight off Giannis in terms of scoring now that he’s got the starting role again, he could help the Bucks get some wins during the regular season and post-season.
Bust
Myles Turner – It seems that Myles Turner won’t be the perfect replacement for Brook Lopez. They are similar players, but Turner isn’t as confident as he should be the way he plays. I don’t even see him trying to be the second option here, unlike his contract could tell us. If Giannis leaves the team he’ll just be an average center in the NBA who needs a star by his side.
Dark Horse
Ryan Rollins – Rollins has been a total surprise to start the year. He’s been the most benefited by the Kevin Porter Jr. injury during the first game of the year and he might even steal his spot in the team. He’s playing with incredible confidence, with great level on both sides of the floor and has surprised everyone in the franchise. Can he even be the reason Giannis trusts the project and stays in Milwaukee to run it again?
After Giannis story this summer, the Bucks are here again. Their season started with Kevin Porter’s injury but surprised them with Ryan Rollins level. With this team, it’s hard to see them competing for the championship. But it they try to build a competitive team during the next two or three years, while Giannis contract is still active, they might be able to do it.
Turner needs to get his confidence back to be a reliable center that can defend and expand the floors while Giannis gets to the paint. Ryan Rollins can be their starting PG for the future, while Gary Trent Jr and AJ Green are great scorers. Offensively, they should be fine, but they might need to get some defensive reinforcements to be able to reach or get closer to teams such as the Knicks or Cavs – of course knowing that it’s really hard right now.
In a couple of years we might either see the same situation as right now or a totally rebuilding team with Giannis elsewhere. Good thing is that if they trade him, they will also get great players or picks to either build the future or compose another type of roster.
