Minnesota Timberwolves Profile

Team Ceiling

Conference Finals – We have already seen them reaching this stage in the Playoffs two years in a row. But they haven’t made any improvements to make that change. Their ceiling is still there and it will depend on Randle’s consistency in the postseason and the leadership of Anthony Edwards.

Team Floor

1st Round – It doesn’t matter in which position you end up in the West, you can always face a difficult opponent in the first round. While it’s difficult to find them fighting in the Play-in, a 1st round exit is probable if things go south for them

X-Factor

Julius Randle – This year he’s proving that he can be a much more consistent player and that’s what the Wolves need from him. We already know that Ant is a great player, and with more years of experience he can lead this team to the Conference Finals at least. But he needs someone as Randle to join him through that fight to get to further objectives.

Bust

Naz Reid – The behavior of some players change when they sign a new and juicy contract. Will that happen to Naz Reid? We don’t know, but after a slow start he’s beginning to get some good games. The Wolves needs him as a spark off the bench and he knows that, especially in the Playoffs.

Dark Horse

Rob Dillingham – This one is a similar case as Reed Sheppard. He’s not as good, but the Wolves didn’t use him as much last year. This new season they are missing a PG and Dillingham seemed to be the solution. But he’s not the solution, at least from Chris Finch. Instead, he’s using Donte DiVicenzo as point guard, which is definitely not working… If he gets his chance, he might prove what he’s capable of for the Wolves, now that Conley is out of the starting lineup

Without many relevant changes, the Wolves seem to aspire to the same accolades as last year. Conference Finals… and no more. It’s difficult seeing them competing the top tier teams in the West. Also, by losing Nickeil Alexander-Walker for basically nothing, they lost a key piece off the bench

Their rotation is shorter, Conley is still there but he’s now 38 and not able to play as much as before. It seems that Minnesota has this and maybe one year more of trying and then they might need to start looking at the market. Trading Gobert, Randle… is an option to get another key player and second option or maybe more rotation assets. This is definitely hard to see as a contender team, especially with teams such as OKC, Houston, Denver and more in the West.
