Orlando Magic Profile
Team Ceiling
Conference Finals – The East is open ground for everybody right now, so it wouldn’t be odd seeing them reach the Conference Finals. With that said, it’s difficult seeing the getting to the NBA Finals. But it’s a good starting point for the years to come
Team Floor
1st Round – If they are not able to consolidate their components as a team, they could be facing an early exit in the Playoffs. Desmond Bane’s adaptation is key here. They lost the championship experience from Caldwell-Pope for a star, which can go both ways.
X-Factor
Franz Wagner – He already had a breakout season last year but with Banchero’s issues with injuries he must take the command of this team. With Bane’s trade, they should be able to reach another level and start being competitive again in the East. On paper, their team is great, good bench, great starting five… But Wagner must be the one commanding the team and bringing his 5 years of experience to the table.
Bust
Tyus Jones – Jones should be the point guard off the bench but it seems that Jamahl Mosley is not trusting him for that job. Maybe during the season he can find his spot, but if he was contracted to make 3s and move the ball, and he’s not doing either, he won’t see much playing time.
Dark Horse
Anthony Black – Cole Anthony and him collided in their role last year, so with his leave, Black should take advantage of this. Seeing what they already have, he doesn’t have enough to be a starter, but he’s in a good position to be the leader off the bench and to elevate his game to another level.
The best word to describe this year for the Orland Magic is uncertainty. It’s very difficult right now to predict what can happen. It depends a lot on how Bane performs, if Banchero is healthy, if the bench can provide as expected. They started weak but have gained some strenght throughout the last weeks.
They won’t be able to count with Mo Wagner for the whole season but his role is well covered by Wendell Carter Jr. and Goga off the bench, plus they already have a really big team.
Jonathan Isaac’s presence was lost after his two years of injuries in a row, but can be a good fit off the bench too. In general, a good team that will need to find his way through a difficult East Conference. Because even though the level is not as high as in the Western Conference, there are many team that have similar level that will be fighting for those spots from the 3rd to the 7th.
Will the Magic make it and will they be able to advance through the Playoffs until they face one of the big ones?
